Parque de Bombas, situated in the southern town of Ponce, is one of Puerto Rico’s most iconic and photographed landmarks.  A must-visit for both adults and children exploring Ponce, this wooden firehouse, painted in striking red with black stripes, stands prominently at Las Delicias Historic Square.  Inside, visitors can explore exhibits showcasing antique engines and delve into the history of Puerto Rico’s most renowned firefighter heroes.

Highlights of Parque de Bombas de Ponce

• First firehouse in Puerto Rico.
• Built in 1882 as the main pavilion for that year’s Exhibition Trade Fair.
• From 1885 – 1990, the building officially served as Ponce’s firehouse.
• Currently houses a museum featuring: photos of firefighters, artifacts used in the past, antique firetruck, and more.

“The Parque de Bombas de Ponce (Old Ponce Fire Station) was built as the main exhibit pavilion for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair. Architect Lt. Col. Maximo Meana of the Spanish Army designed the pavilion; he later served as Ponce’s mayor. In 1885, the building was dedicated as Ponce’s official firehouse–a function which it served for more than 100 years. The wood frame, and Gothic structure exhibits a Moorish influence and is painted in bands of red and black. Today, the building serves as a museum honoring and commemorating Ponce’s firemen.”
